So today i had the awesome opportunity of getting to see Obama speak at JMU.  It was really thrilling to see all these people coming out to see him.  Even though i know most people who were there did not care enough about politics to really wait in line for 4 hours for the possibility of seeing him it was still inspiring to see everyone there to see him.  As a political science major it was thrilling for me to be in the Convo Center.  Being there and seeing everyone doing their job reminded me why I decided to major in political science and why I want to be involved in politics.  I think that even people who love politics sometimes get caught up in all the petty aspects of the campaign like what each candidate is wearing and unnecessary information in order to make a decision.  Attending a huge political event like that though brings back the idea of traditional politics.  I think it is great to have the opportunity to step back from the skewed views of the media and to actually see something political in person is priceless.

the Turth

After Wednesdays class I have been thinking a lot about the truth.  I have come to determine that the only way to know something is true is through experience.  Everything else is up for grabs.  For instance I am pretty sure there is not a tea cup orbiting the Earth, but I have never been off of Earth so I do not know.

Even things that have been proven true by others is questionable because I did not personable see the experiment that was done so how do I know that there wasnt some evidence fudged.

However one thought as really been bothering me.  What if we are all just living in a dream and everything we think and believe is true is really just part of our imagination?

Here is a video that makes fun of how the media shapes the candidates in this election.  Very entertain :-D

As a political science major, I have spent the last two weeks closely examining the Democratic and Republican Conventions.  I think that politics, especially the conventions is one of the greatest places of propaganda.  They tell you what issues are important and the media shapes the agenda of the conventions.  The conventions are all about great speakers and great "performances" by the candidates and by the supporters of the candidate and the party.  Overall I think politics is the greatest spot to look for the media's use of propaganda.
